Murat Vargelci is a New York–based filmmaker whose work explores identity, vulnerability, and human connection through character-driven storytelling. He began his career in 2020 with the award-winning screenplay The Poem, which won first prize in Toronto and was later produced. His 2021 short film Desolate screened internationally and was a Semi-Finalist at the Madrid Film Awards and ARFF Berlin. He earned his MFA in Film from the City College of New York in 2024, where he completed The Crossbow, a coming-of-age drama that received the Chantal Akerman Award for Best Screenplay, the National Board of Review Student Grant, and the Sara Booth Excellence in Editing Award, and screened at the Cannes Short Film Corner. His recent work includes Blue Desire (2024), a stylish heist-driven narrative about three women entangled in a plan to steal a legendary diamond, which premiered at the New York Big Apple Film Festival, and Hey Giggler, currently in post-production.
