In a deeply Catholic corner of 2005 Southern Spain, a devout nine-year-old boy’s path to his First Communion is upended by a transfixing painting of Saint Sebastian, awakening a forbidden desire that threatens to alienate his adored mother.
Pablo Saura is a screenwriter and film director from Cartagena based in London. His work combines queer sensitivity, immigrant perspective, and sharp humour to explore themes such as identity, belonging, and family. He began his career with “This Is Britain”, winner of the Video Innovation Award at Eurovideo (2015), and trained in screenwriting at the London Film School. In 2025, his directorial debut, “Love Lost”, BIFA-qualified, Best Director winner at Big Fridge Festival and Best Director, Best Short Film and Best Actor Winner at Film Critical Space, and was selected by NQV’s “The Male Gaze” for distribution on Amazon Prime. He writes and directs in both English and Spanish, with a style marked by tenderness, irony, and a desire to represent those not usually at the centre of the narrative.
